Mike has this way of standing that attracts women; young, old, fat, ugly, beautiful, gorgeous, just ok, he gets them all. Ok, so he dresses nice and he’s attractive, that should garner a look, a date or two, possibly a few peeks at his photo album on facebook and myspace, but givin’ up the drawls?
Example at the bar last night:
Attractive blonde, ‘Who’s your favorite football team?’
Mike, ‘The Chargers. You?’
‘Dallas.’
‘Aw, come on, everyone likes Dallas, but they suck now.’
She moves in closer with a drink, ‘Where do you watch your games at?’
‘Depends, sometimes at my boy’s house or at a bar. I would ask you, but I don’t care where you watch the cowgirls play.’
‘Touché. Well, I’ll be watching the games at my house tomorrow morning and you’re more than welcome to stay…’
To stay? That wasn’t forward at all. What’s even more hilarious is how picky Mike pretends to be.
‘That was just too easy; she could at least wait for the date. I have standards.’
Where was Mike when I text him that I had made it home safely? At the attractive blonde’s house preparing for Sunday morning football. Standards.
As a former all-city football player, Mike’s body was cut. His physique was beautiful; he looked like he was a college safety or corner back. As most football careers do, his ended with a horrible knee injury while he was playing at a junior college looking to transfer to a division one program. Shortly after, he became very depressed and began smoking and drinking and gaining weight. I had a very serious conversation with him about moving on and not letting all of that get him down, showing him that he was more that just a dumb useless jock. I guess coming from me it hit home and he began rigorously working out again, drinking less, but still smoking.
Headshots and acting classes later, Mike was bussing part-time and modeling part time. He can’t get an acting job, but everyone wants him for print. Modeling isn’t his dream, so he does just enough work to pay the bills and stack money for more acting classes. It’s hard to take someone as attractive as he is seriously, but, it’s hard for him to take modeling seriously, so it’s all relative I suppose.
Outside of acting, however, the world is his. Women spoil him rotten. They sleep with him on-call, they cook, clean, provide him with whatever he needs when he wants it. Sometimes he drives Logan and me crazy because he expects it from us too and when we don’t do it he’s a little irritated for a moment, then he realizes it just us. Guys want to be in his circle because they know he attracts women and many of them don’t mind salvaging his rejects or sloppy seconds.
Beyond the afore mentioned characteristics of Mike, he’s actually not shallow or arrogant. I think his injury and trials in acting have humbled him and built his character. Despite all of the women and wingmen alike he really wants to create art and be acknowledged for it. Trying and failing and then trying again has simply fueled the fire to his passion.
Whoa, something makes more sense to me now than ever before. I had always wondered why Mike had never really networked with Andrew to try and get some work no matter how large or small the role was. He and Andrew actually got along pretty well and would spend time occasionally talking about film and smoking. Duh Rosalyn, he probably felt really awkward since he’d slept with Logan. The man-whore’s got a conscience. That’s definitely funnier than his ‘standards’.
